Why is sublimation printing more popular?

Jun 13, 2022

Many people embrace the wide variety of applications of dye sublimation using sublimation ink and sublimation transfer paper, including textiles, apparel, mugs, blanks, etc. Polyester is essential for successful sublimation because of its dye-absorbing ability. Numerous polyester-based textiles are available for use in textile applications, and "blanks" with polyester coatings ready to take inks are available for product decorating.

The two primary uses for dye sub-printing are textiles and direct object printing. Direct dispersion, or printing directly onto textiles and fixing them in a heat press, dominates the fabric industry. For objects, however, printing onto paper and then heat-pressing the image to the item is the preferred method. But in reality, it's not so easy, and there's some flexibility to the process.  In essence, direct and transfer printing can use the same hardware—some printers are capable of handling both paper and fabric. Furthermore, transfer printing and repair may be done with heat presses.

The allure of dye printing lies in its wide range of applications, from mugs and smartphone cases to signage, to workwear, sportswear and fashion. One minute you may be printing a mug, the next on a t-shirt, then graphics, billboards. Consider only the needs of one client, for example, personalised shirts for players, pitch banners, branded mugs for rugby clubs.
