How to judge whether jumbo roll sublimation paper is damp?

Oct 30, 2024

You can judge whether jumbo roll sublimation paper is damp by the following methods:

1. Appearance inspection
Observe the surface of the paper: If the transfer paper is damp, the surface of the paper may have slight ripples or wrinkles, and it will no longer be as smooth and flat as when it is dry. This is because the paper will expand after absorbing moisture, resulting in an uneven surface.
Check the edge of the paper: Carefully check the edge of the large roll of thermal sublimation transfer paper. If it is damp, the edge may become soft, not stiff, or even curled. Under normal circumstances, the edge of the paper should be neat and straight.
Check the color of the paper: The color of the damp transfer paper may change, become darker or have uneven color spots. This is because moisture affects the absorption and color development of the paper on the ink.

2. Touch judgment

Touch the paper: Touch the transfer paper gently with your hand. If the paper feels damp and soft, and does not feel stiff as when it is dry, it is likely that it has been damp. Normal thermal sublimation transfer paper should have a certain hardness and toughness.
Rub the paper: Take a small piece of transfer paper and rub it gently. If the paper makes a dull sound and is easy to break, it may be damp. Dry transfer paper will make a crisp sound when rubbed and is not easy to break.

3. Print test
Print a small sample: Cut a small part from a large roll of transfer paper and use a sublimation printer to print a test. If the printed pattern is not bright, blurred, or there is a phenomenon of smudge and diffusion, it is likely that the paper is damp and the ink is unevenly absorbed.
Observe the transfer effect: Test the printed sample with sublimation transfer and observe the effect of the pattern transferred to the target object. If the transfer effect is not good, the pattern is not clear, the color is distorted, or the transfer is not firm and easy to fall off, it may also be the cause of the transfer paper being damp.
