What is thermal sublimation transfer?

Mar 06, 2024

As the public's environmental awareness gradually deepens, keywords such as green, environmental protection, and low pollution have gradually become the core of the development of the manufacturing industry. The printing and dyeing industry, one of the major polluters, has received particular attention. Driven by environmental protection, thermal sublimation digital printing has gradually entered people's field of vision. Thermal sublimation transfer technology is also called gas phase transfer. Different from membrane transfer technology, thermal sublimation transfer technology uses thermal sublimation ink to print the picture in the form of a mirror on a specially coated transfer paper, and forms a dry pattern on the paper surface after drying. Under high temperature conditions, the ink sublimates, so that the pattern is transferred to the target substrate. After the transfer, no other substances remain on the surface of the substrate, and the feel of the substrate is not affected. Thermal sublimation transfer technology has a simple process, no dye wastewater is discharged during the production process, and the "pollution" image of traditional printing and dyeing technology is reversed. At the same time, it has the advantages of bright colors and distinct layers, and can truly achieve photo-quality printing effects. It is widely used in various chemical fiber fabrics and specially treated metal, ceramic, glass and other material surfaces. In the early days, sublimation transfer related consumables (sublimation ink, sublimation transfer paper, etc.) relied on foreign imports. Due to cost constraints, they were mainly used in small production lines such as personalized customization. With the rapid development of the sublimation field, factories with the ability to develop and produce sublimation transfer consumables have gradually emerged in China. The localization of sublimation ink and sublimation transfer paper has greatly reduced the cost of sublimation transfer technology, gradually becoming equal to or even lower than the cost of traditional printing, allowing this technology to gradually enter the industrial market and further expand its application scope.

At present, sublimation transfer technology is widely used in the following markets:
1. Printing of various types of fabrics such as clothing fabrics, home textile fabrics, umbrella fabrics, carpet fabrics, and advertising fabrics.
2. Metal surface decorations such as specially treated metal decorative panels, anti-theft doors, and handicrafts.
3. Specially treated glass and ceramic surface decorations and high-temperature resistant plastic material surface decorations.
4. Leather surface decoration.
