Thermal transfer sublimation technology description

Mar 20, 2024

The method of printing on fabrics with thermal sublimation transfer paper is also called vapor phase thermal transfer printing. The basic production method of transfer printing is to first make the applicable dye into ink, then print it into flower paper, and then overlap the flower paper with the fabric and heat and pressurize or decompress it, so that the dye on the paper will be sublimated into the gas phase and transferred to the fabric.

Thermal sublimation transfer ink, thermal sublimation transfer ink is mainly made of thermal sublimation. Dye: The molecular weight of the dye should generally not exceed 350; there is an intermolecular force between the dye gas and the fiber, and it can diffuse into the fiber; the dye thermal sublimation temperature is more suitable below 200℃; the color fastness of the dye transferred to the fiber meets the wearing requirements; the color brightness on the fiber is good; the dye has no affinity with the base paper.

Common transfer printing dyes include anthraquinone dyes, azo dyes, cationic dyes, etc. Binder: Commonly used resins include low-viscosity ethyl cellulose, ethyl hydroxyethyl cellulose (EHEC), long oil modified alkyd resin, etc. Commonly used solvents include turpentine, terpineol, high-boiling alkanol, aromatic hydrocarbons, cellosolves, etc. There are also a small amount of other additives. The main requirements for the binder are low affinity with dyes, easy release of dye gas, and suitable printability, storage and heat transfer adaptability.
