Functional characteristics of sublimation protective paper

May 28, 2025

Sublimation protective paper has many important functional characteristics in the sublimation transfer process, as follows:

1. Thermal protection function

Uniform insulation: Sublimation transfer requires high temperature conditions. Sublimation protective paper can form a uniform insulation layer during transfer, which can evenly disperse the heat, prevent local overheating, and ensure that the heat acts stably on the transfer area, making the pattern transfer more uniform and complete.

Equipment protection: It can effectively block the conduction of heat to peripheral equipment, avoid heat damage to parts of equipment such as printers and transfer machines, extend the service life of equipment, and reduce equipment maintenance and replacement costs.

2. Ink management function

Absorb excess ink: In sublimation transfer, ink may diffuse or be redundant. Sublimation protective paper has good ink absorption, can quickly absorb excess ink, prevent ink from flowing and smudging on the surface of the transfer, and ensure the clarity and accuracy of the pattern.

Prevent ink penetration: Its special material and coating can form a barrier to prevent ink from penetrating the bottom layer or back of the transfer, ensuring that the transfer pattern only exists on the target surface and does not affect other parts of the transfer.

3. Surface protection function

Physical protection: It can be used as an isolation layer between the transfer and the outside world. During the transfer operation and subsequent processing, it prevents the transfer surface from being scratched by sharp objects and hit by other objects, maintaining the integrity and flatness of the transfer surface.

Chemical protection: It can resist the erosion of the transfer surface by possible chemicals in the outside world, avoid the reaction of chemicals with the transfer or ink, and ensure the color stability and durability of the transfer pattern.

4. Auxiliary transfer function

Promote sublimation: Some sublimation protection papers contain special ingredients that can reduce the sublimation temperature of the ink to a certain extent, making the ink easier to sublimate, improving the sublimation efficiency, and reducing the transfer time and energy consumption.

Guided transfer: It can help guide the ink to be evenly transferred to the transfer surface, especially for some transfers with complex shapes or irregular surfaces, which can make the ink better fit the surface of the object and improve the transfer effect.
